The Medical Education Unit have put into place a number of supports for supervisors of Junior Medical staff including the introduction of JMO Preceptors in each area, and a Supervisors information pack which outlines the accreditation requirements of JMO Supervisors and the differences you will need to take into account when supervising a JMO rather than a Psychiatry Trainee.
Quick tips for Supervision
Irrespective of a JMOs years of service they are employed as Junior Medical Staff in Psychiatry and should be assessed at a level equal to the position they hold within the Service.
Apart from Subsections C1 and C2, the candidate should achieve a 3 or above to be considered a successful pass. Anything scored less than a 3 is an unsatisfactory result and a remediation plan, discussed with you as the supervisor and the JMO, should then be submitted to the Medical Education Unit for follow up.
If deficits become obvious early in the term then these should be reflected at the mid term assessment and a remediation plan put in place to support the JMO's continued improvement and professional development.
